Research Associate position in Gamma-Ray Bursts

a

Applications are invited for a Research Associate (RA-I) position at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology to work on the physics of Gamma-Ray Bursts. The fellowship is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) under the grant titled “What makes radio-bright gamma-ray bursts special?” (Grant number: CRG/2022/008253). The RA will work with Dr. Resmi Lekshmi, with opportunities for collaboration with Dr. Kuntal Misra (ARIES, Nainital), the Co-Investigator of the project

Job description - The project covers multiple aspects of GRB prompt emission and afterglows. Candidates may work on one or more of the following (depending on expertise and interest):

  • Analysis of radio afterglow data
  • Analysis of high energy data from Swift-BAT/XRT, Fermi-GBM/LAT
  • Theoretical/numerical modelling

Eligibility

PhD in astrophysics.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in X-ray/radio data analysis or/and background in non-thermal radiation processes. Proficiency in numerical programming and knowledge of high energy astrophysical phenomena are desirable.

The fellowship will be ₹58000 plus HRA (at applicable rates as per GoI rules). Under the grant, funding is available for domestic travel, contingency, and consumables.

The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension up to two years from the date of joining, subject to available funding and satisfactory performance.
