Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, an Indian Air Force pilot and astronaut, has been selected to travel to the International Space Station (ISS) since Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma in 1984. Shubanshu Shukla will fly aboard SpaceX Dragon as part of the Axiom AX-4 mission and will stay aboard the ISS as part of a NASA-ISRO collaboration. ISRO has shortlisted microgravity research experiments from various national R&D laboratories and academic institutions for implementation on the ISS.
Shri. Shukla will be conducting seven experiments during his mission. Apart from the immense pride he brings to the nation, this is also a proud moment for IIST - as one of the experiments comes from IIST, in collaboration with Kerala Agricultural University, to study the impact of microgravity on the growth and yield parameters of food crop seeds.
